Why does my traditional foundation change colour over time?

The reason for the colour changes in traditional makeup, is that over time and due to the exposure to oxygen the synthetic preservatives wear off and the dyes that are used in the products are unstable and change colour. Jane Iredale doesn’t use any dyes, the colour comes from natural pigments in the minerals, and minerals won’t change colour (minerals are found from rocks, some are even grown in a lab).
